She said the decision to launch this study came after she took a rapid look at the issue of unpaid caregiving and mental health during the first wave of Covid pandemic in 2020. Of the 139 research papers published between 2003 and 2020 that touched on the subject, she found that only seven were Canadian and just one identified race and ethnicity — and even then, 95 per cent of the participants identified as white.
