No the hospital isn’t the cause of the delay. The father violated the organ donor transplant rules. He should have considered that before committing a crime. The transplant rules preclude inmates from donating organs for several reasons and one if those reasons is to protect the inmate. Inmates are considered vulnerable populations so they are protected to keep them from being coerced into donating organs in exchange for promises of getting out of prison etc. The second reason is to protect the child. Prisoners may be exposed to various blood borne diseases that take months to develop. The hospital can’t take a chance that the child gets the kidney then develops Hep C.
