Over a period of 14 years of caring for my son, we had moved twice; three provinces, three unique care experiences as a complex care patient. If I were to consider an overarching theme that occupied every place we lived, the most predominant thought that comes to mind is a feeling of being set apart. You make two homes: the one you pay a mortgage on and the hospital.

When there comes a need to spend time in your “second home”, there is a lot to undertake in order to make a stay successful. Time inpatient has a way of making you feel isolated or set away from the regular paces of life. It has a way of wearing on you physically and mentally.
